LEGO (1940s)

The troll dolls were recognised by their brightly coloured, fur hair. Their popularity has surged in different periods over the decades, especially in the early 1990s. Let’s face it – they were so ugly that they were cute!

HOT WHEELS (1960s)

The Matchbox line of Hot Wheels was an absolute winner! Sold individually with plastic tracks, Hot Wheels had kids around the globe racing each other and collecting their flashy ‘wheels.

ETCH-A-SKETCH (1960s)

The Etch-A-Sketch allowed children to create unlimited images using two knobs to draw on what looked like a mini TV screen. Its simple design made it an instant hit for children, and even for adults.

MOUSETRAP (1960s)

This 2-4-player game was a hit! The game involved players working together to build a mousetrap, and then turning against each other to trap the other players’ mouse playing pieces.

Mastermind was a code-breaking game for two players. It was one of those games that kept you guessing and was always hard to crack.

SLINKY (1970s)

The slink was invented in the 1940s but had a rise in popularity in the 1970s. Kids would spend hours on end being entertained by the slinky as it travelled down a flight of stairs.

Although around for many years, the Yo-Yo came into popularity again in the 1960s when it was trademarked as the Yo-Yo. The simplistic toy held by a piece of string became a popular pastime for many as they practiced cool tricks.

“Weebles wobble, but they don’t fall down” was the slogan of these little egg-shaped toys. Designed in a variety of shapes, animals and people – these were a great little collectors item for children in the 70s.

This colourful puzzle still leaves people around the world twisting and turning to date. The Rubik’s cube had everyone racing to be the fastest solver, and left people obsessed with trying to solve it.

CABBAGE PATCH KIDS (1980s)

These were the dolls that everybody just had to have! Each doll was unique with their own adoption papers and birth certificate and remain one of the most beloved toys in history.

CARE BEARS (1980s)

Originally from greeting cards, these colourful bears were turned into plush toys in the 80s. Each Care Bear was categorized by its colour and image on the belly. They have appeared in plenty of movies and TV Shows over the years.

Similar to Care Bears, My Little Pony toys featured colourful bodies and symbols for different characters. They were also featured in films and TV series.
